Designed to honor Catholic tradition and liturgy, and to reflect the culture of the local parish, this 1,200-seat church is inspired by Romanesque architecture. The main space is supplemented by a chapel, bride and cry room, reconciliation room, sacristies and a vestry. Craig Gaulden Davis worked with a stone sculptor and mosaicist, a blacksmith, bronzesmith and glass artist to design original artwork, hardware and light fixtures.
• In order to avoid visual distractions, there are no light fixtures or mechanical ducts in the exposed ceiling trusses.
• Sound reflections are successfully controlled by the shape of the walls, rather than by absorptive materials.
• Floors consist of exposed salt-finished concrete accented by stone bands.
• Each leaf of the front entrance doors is five feet wide and fourteen feet tall.
